A mobile phone application for caregivers of dependent older adults in Suphan Buri province, Thailand: Usability and feasibility of SAH

Background: It is widely acknowledged that the engagement of family caregivers and older adult with dependence as important for primary health care centre. Objectives: This study was to examine the feasibility and usability of Aging Screening Health application for caregivers of dependent older adults. Methods: There were 2 dimensions in the evaluation of the “Screening Aging Health” application. The first dimension was technical quality which was evaluated by seven experts, and the second dimension was an evaluation on the level of satisfaction by 25 end users. The sample was selected by purposive sampling and consisted of caregivers of older adults in Song Phi Nong District, Suphan Buri province of Thailand. The research instruments were the “Screening Aging Health” application, the Applications Capabilities Questionnaire, and the questionnaire on satisfaction of end users. Data analysis was conducted using means and standard deviations. Results: the quality of the “Screening Aging Health” application for the caregivers of older adults with dependence was at very good level with a mean of 96.57 (SD= 3.31), and the users’ satisfaction levels were at good level with a mean of 90.24 (SD= 4.73). Conclusion and recommendations: Overall usability and satisfaction with ASH application were good and we were able to manage a health promotion plans for elderly in community as health needs. However, village health volunteers with limited in health literacy on cognitive impairment, those required active planning for brain training and brain stimulation in future.
